Better Finances for a Better You

Cash Flow Section

The Cash Flow section is a categorized view of your income and expenses.
By analyzing cash flow, you can see where your money comes from and where it's going.

Categories and Transactions

Transactions are grouped by category. Click on the icon to expand a category and see its associated transactions.

You may change the category to which a transaction is assigned using the Category Selector: Uncategorized

Update a transaction by clicking . Split Transaction lets you create individually categorized sub-transactions (e.g. after a visit to Costco or Walmart). One-off implies that a transaction is unique, and will not be included in your Historic Average calculation.

Click "Categories" and "Transactions" tabs to toggle between a categorized view and a list view of your transactions.

Date Range

You will only see Transactions within the selected date range. Use the Date Picker to change the date range:

1 Oct 2022  - 31 Oct 2022

To broaden or narrow the date range, click the Period Selector

Expense Type

There are four expense types:

  • Essential - e.g. rent, groceries
  • Non-Essential - e.g. concert tickets, restaurants
  • Savings - e.g. cash directed to a savings account
  • Debt Payment - e.g. a payment toward a mortgage or car loan

Each Category has a default type. You can change the type by clicking the arrow to the right of the type icon.

Recurring Income and Expenses

Income and expenses are automatically created from your data in My Money.

However, you can also create recurring income and recurring expenses where:

  • the associated account is not connected to Neontra
  • the income or expense is in cash. For example, a monthly cash payment of $500 to a family member.

Add by clicking the + icon next to Total Income or Total Expenses.

Forecast

Neontra predicts your income and expenses using forecasts. There are four forecast settings, which you can see by clicking on a forecast entry in the Cash Flow page.

  • Historic Average: System-generated average, based on your past behavior
  • Custom Forecast: Average, set by you
  • Schedule Periods of Spending: Set by you for specific periods. For example, if you will be spending $100 on Routine Maintenance on your vehicle in April and October, choose this option and set the amount to $100 for April and October. The forecast will be $0 for periods that do not include April and October.
  • Schedule Dated Payments: Set by you for specific dates. For example, if you will be paying $150 in Registration Fees for your vehicle on July 15th, choose this option and set the amount to $150 and the date to July 15. The forecast will be $0 for periods that do not include July 15th.

Expense Explorer

The Expense Explorer lets you go deeper into your spending, and identify opportunities to save.

Expense Types displays your expenses by type: Essential, Non-essential, Debt Payments and Savings Contributions. There are three visualizations:

  • Cumulative Over Time: a running, or cumulative total of your spending
  • Monthly Totals: how much you spend per month
  • Category Size: size comparison, per category

Click on the filters in the chart legend to exclude one or more of your expense types.

Categories shows your expenses by category, and is helpful for seeing the relative size of your spending.
